Political news is a genre of journalism that deals with politics and government. It includes news and commentary that analyzes the role of government in society, as well as examining the relationship between politicians, parties, and voters. Political news is a prominent part of the media industry and plays a critical role in educating voters and shaping viewpoints on political issues.
This article aims to examine the structural-systemic factors that have been determining the production and publication of political news by private news TV Channels in Indonesia since the Post-Soeharto Regime. The author adopts a critical political economy perspective to analyse the current problems faced by Indonesian commercial news TV channels in producing and publishing political news. To achieve this objective, the research methodology uses a qualitative content analysis approach to analyse and interpret data collected through in-depth interviews with five senior editors/journalists of Indonesian commercial news TV Channels.
