What to Look for in Presidential News

News about the presidential race is a hot topic this summer. About half of Americans say they’re following the candidates for president very or fairly closely. And many of those voters say they’ve been hearing a lot of misinformation.

One of the most important steps you can take to be an informed voter is to know what to look for in credible news. That includes identifying the authors and sources of the information you read. A reputable news story will usually have a byline with information about the author, such as their education, name and where they work. It should also cite experts (typically more than one) on the subject at hand. If you’re curious, or suspicious, about the sources cited in a news story, Google them to see what else they might have to say.

Using these tips and others like them, you can be more confident in the information you receive from your news outlets. As Election Day draws near, it’s especially important to find the highest quality information available so you can make the best decision for your own personal circumstances and political beliefs.
